Your roots may not need any conditioner  at all, depending on your hair type. If your hair is fine  or thin, avoid conditioner at the roots completely.  Thicker, more porous hair usually needs a little  conditioning all over.

Keep a wide tooth comb in the shower and  detangle hair with conditioner in, and then rinse  completely. Hair is more likely to tangle in winter because  of friction, so you'll need some extra love to get  those knots out.
